FROM AROUND THE SCHOOL
We ask that if your child has been sick, kindly keep them home until they are a good 24 hours without contagious symptoms. This means no fever or stomach ailments for 24 hours.
Please insure that your child comes properly dressed for the weather – the kids go outside for recess and lunch time!
FROM OUR TRUSTEE – SHELLEY LASKIN
If you are not already signed up for Shelley Laskin’s Weekly Newsletter – you may do so by following the below link. the newsletter finely details information for parents regarding items that include our school, neighbourhood, ward, board proposals and decisions and how to stay connected. Please do sign up.
The next Ward Forum we will be electing our Parent Involvement Advisory Committee (PIAC) Representative and Alternate and also our French as A Second Language Advisory Committee (FSLAC) Representative and Alternate.
Each TDSB Ward has two PIAC Members, a Representative and an Alternate. They are advocates who provide information and advice on parent engagement to the TDSB; communicate with and support school councils of schools; and undertake activities to help parents of pupils of the board support their children’s learning at home and at school. According to the PIAC By-Laws, in order to serve for the two-year term, you must be a Toronto District School Board parent or guardian, reside in the ward and have a TDSB-enrolled child who resides in the ward, or have a child who is enrolled in a TDSB school in the ward. If you are interested, please read the information package on elections here. And please review PIAC’s website here .
The FSLAC consults with and advises the Board on French as a Second Language matters and contributes to the work of trustees and staff. This partnership of trustees, staff and parents fosters excellence and growth in FSL programs at the Board. The FSLAC is comprised of parent representatives and alternates elected by ward councils, a parent co-chair elected by FSLAC parent representatives, a trustee appointed by the Board as co-chair and designated TDSB staff. Thank you to Lauralyn Johnston and Nadya Phelan who were the former Ward 8 Representative and Alternate. For more information on the FSLAC, please click here.
If you are interested in representing our Ward at FSLAC, you can attend the next FSLAC meeting to check it out. It is on Tuesday, January 8, 7 pm at 5050 Yonge. The FSLAC is happy to have additional alternates.
Please let me know by e-mailing me to firstname.lastname@example.org if any of these positions interest you.
