A few notes and reminders about safety at morning drop-off:
Parents driving their child/ren to school may stop in the Davisville Avenue parking lot and escort them to the playground or daycare.
Please do not stop in the bus loading zone at the east end of the building. If you are visiting the school for an extended period of time please park in the lot and obtain a parking permit from the office.
For safety reasons, parents and students walking to school along Davisville Avenue, must enter the school grounds through the playground gate (off Davisville) and not through the parking lot.
And when driving near the school, especially on Millwood Road, please slow down. Taking a few more seconds to get parked will not make you late…
Thank you for your cooperation!
A number of School Council members have been asked about when we will have Full Day Kindergarten at our school.
Last October we were informed that Davisville was on the list for the 2012-13 school year, however our Trustee Shelley Laskin has clarified that Davisville will be getting Full Day Kindergarten for the 2013-14 school year.
Maurice Cody and Eglinton are still set to receive Full Day Kindergarten for the 2012-13 school year, as was originally stated.
Shelley has told us that capital funding has been approved for schools (including Davisville) that are part of Phase 4, which will be starting Full Day Kindergarten in September 2013. In the next few weeks, we should have an idea as to any renovations that will be needed in order to make room for Full Day Kindergarten.
Davisville PS runs a wonderful snack program that offers all students a nutritious snack every morning. The school’s new snack coordinator is committed to providing healthy, fresh snacks, with minimal packaging, preservatives, salt and sugar. However, fresh food and less packaging means more preparation. The teachers and teachers’ aides are working hard to provide these snacks, but more help is desperately needed to prepare, serve and clean up. If you are able to volunteer for one, two or even three hours, one morning a week, please contact the school office. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Davisville PS/MTSD held its first Anything But Car (ABC) Day today and the students responded with great enthusiasm. Ninety percent of the school participated, with five classes having a remarkable 100% participation rate! Most students (64%) walked, while 22% took a bus, and 5% rode their bike or scootered to school.
The kids all had a great time. And parents enjoyed it too, commenting “…it was great to see the excitement in the children’s faces,” and “….it’s a great idea to teach children, who are our future!”
ABC events work to create safer routes for walking and bicycling, emphasize the importance of physical activity, increase concern for the environment, and help build connections between families, schools and the broader community. For more information, please visit the Eco-Schools page.
The next School Council Meeting will be this Tuesday, November 8th at 6:45 pm in the Staff Room. Please enter through the middle doors in the school yard (south side of school) and turn right down the hall. Babysitting will be provided.
Everyone is welcome. Even if you’ve never attended before, or feel unable to make a commitment, it’s never too late to get involved, or to simply stop by to listen to what’s happening at the school. Your attendance and support is always appreciated!
