Yesterday, Davisville-MTSD students joined millions of students at schools across Canada who participated in the annual Terry Fox National School Run Day. Kids from Cape Spear, Newfoundland, to Victoria, British Columbia, to Grise Fiord, Nunavut ran as part of a nation-wide day of fundraising for cancer research.
Terry Fox set an inspiring example of courage and contribution. He left us with one of the great Canadian stories of our time. Terry began his Marathon of Hope on April 12, 1980 and ran the equivalent of a full marathon every day, with only a few rest days. He faced gale force winds, heavy rain and a snowstorm in his first days running through Newfoundland and he ran through the heat of an Ontario summer. When cancer returned, he had to end his run near Thunder Bay, Ontario having completed 5,373 kilometres. Terry’s legacy continues to inspire people across Canada and around the world.
Thanks to the teachers and parent volunteers who made this a fun and inspiring event for all of our kids.
